Oaxaca and the Day of Dead ceremonies and celebrations provided a wonderfully rich environment in which to practice seeing and capturing moments of daily life and ritual. This portfolio was photographed in October and November 2006 on a workshop with Ernesto Bazan. I will never forget walking into a sea of candles and marigolds in the Atzompa Cemetary at 3:30 in the morning. In addition to images from the cemetery, the portfolio captures other aspects of the Day of the Dead celebrations in the city of Oaxaca and the surrounding villages.
